Brazil	Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro	Phd Student	Female	Yes	We at the State University of the North Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro, represented by the renowned dean Raul PalÃ¡cio, are dedicated to the strengthening of ODS 14 through the Pescarte Project, coordinated by the professor of the same university, Dr. Geraldo TimÃ³teo. The Pescarte project aims to strengthen the social organization of artisanal fishing communities in the State of Rio de Janeiro. We defend the investment of the regional and local government in solidarity economy activities, such as artisanal fishing, through policies to encourage the creation of processing units and fishing stocks under the principles of cooperativism. This measure would promote the income of thousands of families, establish a fair price for fish, decrease the catch of fish and allow many to overcome a serious context of food insecurity. Fish can be traded in the regions where it is produced, it can meet public policies to supply schools, daycare centers, orphanages, prisons, since the government offers food in these spaces. Marketing on the local market is important to reduce the ecological footprint of this production chain. We are in the process of presenting projects and looking for ideas for the implementation of these fish processing units, in which we intend to use renewable energy for the operation in order to strengthen actions to face climate change. We work to qualify artisanal fishing communities in seven municipalities in the State of RIo de Janeiro, for the public environmental management of their territories. We believe that traditional management must be respected and valued by scientific knowledge, in a true ecology of knowledge. Therefore, a common challenge for academia and governments is to make the language used to discuss the environmental crisis pedagogically interesting, accessible and inclusive for society.
